(Gwinnett County, Ga., February 7, 2025) – On February 6, 2025, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit was executing a warrant at a residence in Snellville. During the operation, an individual, later identified as Denzel James Thompson, opened fire on deputies. No law enforcement personnel were injured. The Gwinnett Police Uniform Division, Gwinnett Police SWAT Team, and other local agencies responded to assist with the incident. Thompson was apprehended and taken into custody.
Thompson faces several charges, including four counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer (16-5-21.C), four counts of Possession of a Firearm or Knife During the Commission of or Attempt to Commit Certain Crimes (16-11-106), and Unauthorized Discharge within 50 Yards of a Public Highway (16-11-103). Thompson is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Jail.
